The Velocity Jacket is part of Mountain Hardwear's Soft Shell range.
The key to it is the Schoeller Dryskin Extreme fabric. The Swiss-made material has a stretch woven nylon face that incorporates Cordura yarns for added abrasion resistance and toughness. As a result the exterior does feel slightly rough, but the brushed liner is soft against the skin.
So what's so great about Schoeller? Okay, first it's highly wind resistant - not windproof, but not far off, next it's very water repellent. Run a tap over it and the water just runs off. The stretchiness means that mobility is fantastic, even with a close fit. It's tough too. And finally, breathability and wicking are both good, that's good as in like a fleece fabric rather than a windproof, so it's spot on for fast moving.
