Haglofs Shell layer
The shell layer is the outermost garment in the layer-on-layer concept. It protects against wind, water and snow while simultaneously releasing just as much moisture as possible (what we commonly refer to as breathability).
By protecting you from the elements, our garments also help you to retain body heat. All shell layer jackets have a hood.
The principle of Haglöf’s shell layer series is the same, whether the fabric is 2 or 3-layer Gore-Tex®, or 2 or 2.5-layer Proof.
The difference here is that waterproof and breathability values vary for the various fabrics.
Consider how you will use the garment before making your choice.
The shell jacket is often the most costly investment in your clothing equipment.
Choose fabrics based on use and your level of activity since different fabrics offer varying levels of resistance to external factors. Even if the fabric has an excellent standard today, there are differences in terms of resistance to wind, water and wear and tear. Packability is an issue too. At times, being able to put your shell in a backpack with limited packing volume is incredibly valuable. But packability has low priority in terms of everyday use.
Also remember to choose a style that suits your needs. For instance, check out the number of pockets and whether where they are placed matches your preferences. Some jackets only have two napoleon pockets so that they don’t get in the way of a hip belt or a climbing harness. This feature might be less practical in other, more everyday contexts.
